Non-healing wounds are wounds that are difficult to heal or that recur repeatedly. A particularly complex group of non-healing wounds are diabetic leg ulcers, pressure sores, so-called decubitus ulcers, leg ulcers, non-healing postoperative wounds, burns, and others.
Despite technological and therapeutic advances, the care of non-healing wounds represents a significant therapeutic challenge.
The wound microenvironment is the area where interconnected biological processes take place that influence proper wound healing.

Important factors characterizing non-healing wounds include:
– Severe increase in wound pH
– Chronic and persistent inflammation
– Presence of biological contamination (infection, biofilm)
By influencing the microenvironment, we can effectively influence the natural wound healing processes, because proper care of the wound microenvironment has a strong impact on the healing of non-healing wounds.
